Instead of imbibing too much bubbly and spending New Year's Day with a headache, why not take it easy on New Year's Eve and come out to Spoke-n-Sport's 24th Annual New Year's Day Ride? Layer up, grab the winter bike, have a refreshing ride and warm up with chili, DJ Steve Wade, OpenSprints and lots of friends. Cheers!
RECAP:
The ride was another great one... and the best ride of the year so far. There's a nice article in the Argus Leaderalong with some nice snapshots.
I swapped my studded snow tires onto my hybrid bike today so I could attend FAB's annual Christmas version of the Starlight Ride. Eight hardy souls and a jolly old elf made it out. Winter Wonderland at Falls Park, Phillips Avenue, Reindeer Lane and Mr. Bendo were all on the route, topped off with cocoas and mochas at Michelle's. I officially have the Christmas Spirit now.
It's about that time of year to get the studded snow tires on! What better way of starting the new year than with the first ride of the year? I'm planning on it.
There's a very nice article on Ken Alvine and other local cartoonists by Jay Kirschenmann at the Argus Leader today. I encourage you to check it out. If you happen to be at this site for the first time, I've been busy with the illustration series you see below. For my cartoons, you'll have to go back to the archives of September or earlier. I hope you enjoy!
I've wrapped up the updates and digital painting for four more in this series of illustrations for the park proposal. I had fun learning about the PS dynamic brush settings to get a traditional watercolor look for the paintings.
Briman's 50, and you're all invited. I was first thinking of a 50-mile ride... then thought 50K might be just fine. Then I learned there's a DakotaStrong (Livestrong) ride late that morning, which I'll ride, so the pubcrawl will be in the evening. Starting and ending at Monk's House of Ale Repute, stop by any time with or without your bike for the festivities.
Here's a concept sketch of proposed improvements to one of our local parks. The idea is to add a number of water features like the waterfall shown here.
If you haven't been following the news at FAST (Falls Area SingleTrack), we've got the plan for singletrack in Leaders Park approved by the Sioux Falls Parks Board and the final details for the maintenance agreement are now being worked out.
Holy Crap! The last few of these cool T-shirts are available at Prairie Cycles in downtown Sioux Falls. If you don't have a chance to get the originals there, this slightly updated design is available at Zazzle.com.
If you're not the King Of The Mountains you might not need a cycling jersey - but you do need a T-shirt! Available at my store at Zazzle. If you browse through the shirt styles, there's a technical "T", which would be great for casual riding. Ride on!
Henry Weinhard's root beer is awesome. You should try it. Beware of foam. The printing of this nice lithographic image sometimes doesn't match up exactly at the seam of the six-pack carton, so in our house, he's affectionately known as Three-eyed Henry.
July 5th, the day after the celebration, when it's time to clean up the mess. The large rockets here performed their job quite well. The bottle rockets added some excitement by being somewhat unpredictable. Like the one that went half way up its trajectory, then angled straight down and bounced off the transformer across the street.
Named to resemble the pro race Liège-Bastogne-Liège, "LBL" in Nebraska started as "Lincoln-Beatrice-Lincoln" - but now it's more like "Lonnie's House-Brewery-Lonnie's House".
This is the venue for my cartoons, sketches, graphics and random thoughts. I hope to build up some content while working on linework, composition, characters and comedic timing.
